An American monk of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness was found dead in his room at the organisation's Mayapur headquarters, near here. The body of Roger Terrance, who was known as 'Suharto Maharaj' [Suhotra Maharaj] and died on Monday, was sent for post-mortem on Tuesday, ISKCON PRO Paresh Das said.

Those were heart-rending scenes. The condition of those women was so pathetic that I died a thousand deaths everyday. That was Vrindavan 30 years ago. Close to where I stayed, around 10 widows lived together.

No other religion can be preached -- and no mosques or churches built -- in an 80,628 acre area around Tirupati's Balaji temple, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam said yesterday.

The Devasthanam till now controlled a 6,600 acre area that includes Tirumala -- the small temple town housing 10,000-15,000 people, mostly temple workers -- and the ban applied there.
