Krsna not only steals butter, He steals our hearts by gradually removing our sins, attachments and offences and thus making it a suitable residence for Him to manifest His pastimes. Therefore, He is called Hari, thief. Because we are unwilling to give back to Him all that we have stolen, He steals it back.

I was recently asked this question: “How does the Supreme Personality of Godhead observe the cosmic manifestation?” Krsna, although the director of the material energy, is aloof from it. The Lord is always neutral in the material activities of the created world. Although He has control over every minute...

In this matter I am simply acting as a spectator since I was never closely involved with New Vrindavana. I have taken no sides but I am, of course, concerned at the extremely serious accusations levelled against Radhanath Svami and other...

My dear Srila Prabhupada, I was in prison within the prison of Devi-Dhama, yet you effortlessly came in and freed me. Because you saved my life, from that day on my life belongs to you. As a river flows to the sea, my natural desire to see you overcame all material obstacles and brought me to Vrindavana, to your lotus feet.

When I first came into contact with the devotees in 1972 the last thing on my mind was to join the temple. I simply saw no compelling reason to do so. I thought I had more pressing matters to attend to. However, being appreciative of the devotees’ obvious commitment (chanting in the streets) and...

I have some comments on recent articles that appeared in the Sun: “Searching for Sadhu? Danger Ahead” by Rocana dasa, “Murali Krishna Swami and his Guru Decoder Ring Sampradaya”, “Umapati Swami Tries to Rewrite his History” by Navadvipchandra dasa, and “How and Why the Gaudiya...

This verse indicates that for a devotee there is no room for cheating, because to the extent that one is not in Krishna consciousness, to that extent he must be in illusion (maya). One can understand that to the degree that perfection eludes him, that much he must be engaged in the material energy. Even if one is progressing, still, until perfection is achieved, some illusory engagement must be there.

Advanced in devotional service? That’s a tricky question. The pat and often heard answer is something like this, “I’m lower than a worm in stool and if someone hears my name he will go to hell...” and so on and so forth - that is a very popular line promoted by kanisthas for kanisthas. That answer is a cheap imitation of great...

Religion means that we are servants. Otherwise, how can Krishna demand that we surrender to Him? Therefore the proper word is dharma or the living entity’s inherent quality. Every living entity in whatever form is dependent, no one is independent. The common understanding of religion is faith, but faith can change whereas...
