Bhaktivedanta College Begins Offering a Bachelor's Degree
By Nayika Devi Dasi
The nine students in the Year Three course, who are supposed to graduate in June 2007, will receive Bachelor's degrees in Theology from Bhaktivedanta College's partner in education, the University of Wales Lampeter. A Bachelor's degree in theology can provide a devotee great opportunities to effectively preach in academia and in public and within the Hare Krishna movement. A Bhaktivedanta College education also contributes to a devotee's strengths in becoming a teacher and manager. Till recently the field of theology has been predominated by Christian scholars. The potential now is being given to devotees to present the illuminating Vaishnava philosophy to society. Educated devotees can have a positive influence by giving people scholarly explanations of the world and God. By studying at Bhaktivedanta College, students dramatically enrich their character in three ways: (1) by the spiritual development that comes from sadhana and from seminars and retreats given by gurus and senior Vaisnavas; (2) through personal development, pastoral care, and vocational courses that enable them to better manage themselves and others in ISKCON; and by deepening their knowledge of theology and related fields. Each year the college students invigorate the atmosphere of Radhadesh by their enthusiasm and geniality. The College's combined efforts regarding character development and enlightenment in theology will greatly benefit students and bring the degree-holders high recognition in different arenas in human society. |
