Turning to the Beauty of Krishna

The beauty found in this relative world pales before the beauty of Krishna’s perfect form. People are very much enamored by the beauty of this world. The Vedic literature, however, offers us penetrating insight into the actual nature of material beauty. If people would take the time to hear from these revered sources, they would be surprised to learn that what is accepted as beauty within this world is but the pale, illusory reflection of the unlimited spiritual beauty of Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Of course, some would disagree with the idea that material beauty is false. The smitten young man sees his sweetheart as the epitome of loveliness, the scholar is moved by the rich imagery in a masterpiece of poetry, and the artist views the pastoral scenery as the handiwork of angels. In each case the viewer appreciates what he or she perceives to be true beauty. Why, then, is it said to be false?

The answer to this question is given in the Second Chapter of the Bhagavad-gita,where Lord Krishna tells Arjuna, ‘Those who are seers of the truth have concluded that of the nonexistent there is no endurance and of the existent there is no cessation. This seers have concluded by studying the nature of both.’

Material beauty is herein deemed false in the sense that its manifestation is very, very brief. It appears momentarily and then disappears like a mirage. The attractive young body becomes old and wrinkled; it dies, decays, and is eaten by worms. And the beauty of the poem. although preserved for some time in book form, must also perish, as must the flowered countryside, lost forever in the dark wells of time.

Material beauty also proves false when we look more closely or shift our perspective. If the young man, for instance, were to peel away the covering layer of skin on the alluring young body’the object of his attraction’he would immediately become repulsed, proving conclusively that material beauty is only skin deep. And the poem or country scene, appreciated at one moment as quintessential beauty, may be seen in the next as utterly devoid of all charm by the same admirer, who, having endured some emotional trauma, now sees everything much differently.

Finally, material beauty is false in that it can never fully satisfy the soul, and in time the young man desires another lover, the scholar purchases a new book of poems, and the artist goes on to view another scene, each searching for an absolute level of fulfillment that continually eludes him, even up to death.

All of these points are mentioned not to invoke a mood of gloom and despair but rather to illustrate that although our love of beauty is a perfectly natural sentiment we are looking for it in all the wrong quarters. As a miner carefully studies his maps before prospecting, we also must determine the whereabouts of true beauty if we wish to unearth this valuable treasure.

The Vedic literature tells us that the reservoir of beauty is Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is the Absolute Truth, or the source of everything. The relative beauty found in this world has its origin in Him, and ultimately we must turn to Him if we wish to realize our desire to know perfect beauty. In the Brahma- samhita.Lord Brahma eloquently describes the transcendental beauty of Lord Krishna:

I worship Govinda [Krishna], the primeval Lord, who is adept at playing on His flute, whose blooming eyes are like lotus petals, whose head is bedecked with a peacock’s feather, whose figure of beauty is tinged with the hue of blue clouds, and whose unique loveliness is charming millions of Cupids.

This factual description of Krishna’s spiritual beauty is not a whimsical creation of Brahma’s imagination. Rather, it was spoken by Brahma in a trance of self- realization, in which he saw the Lord standing before him face to face. In his next verse. Brahma continues to describe his vision, with notable reference to the eternality of Krishna’s form:

I worship Govinda. the primeval Lord, round whose neck is swinging a garland of jeweled ornaments, who is always reveling in pastimes of love. whose graceful, threefold- bending form of Syamasundara is eternally manifest.

As Krishna’s form is ‘eternally manifest’ so is the beauty of that form, thus fulfilling the Bhagavad-gita’s definition of reality’that which has ‘no cessation.’ Not only is Krishna’s beauty eternal, but it is also ever fresh, like an endlessly blooming springtime. A devotee never tires of viewing that divine form, which is so magnificent that Krishna Himself cannot estimate it for in one moment He measures, and in the next moment it expands unlimitedly, eluding even His vast capacity to understand.

Since Krishna is the Absolute Truth. His beauty is also absolute and is never canceled or diminished by closer examination or change in perspective. His form is the vessel of pure spiritual energy’eternity, knowledge, and bliss’and it is therefore beautiful through and through. Indeed it has been compared to the radiant vaidurya gem, which, although appearing differently according to the play of light upon its numerous colored facets, is extraordinarily beautiful from whichever angle it is viewed. Thus Krishna’s beauty is always appreciated by the countless pure devotees who inhabit the spiritual sky, some of whom regularly descend to this material plane to turn our attention back to Him.

Krishna’s absolute nature is also such that anything connected with Him, be it His name, form, words, pastimes, or paraphernalia. also exhibits His superlative beauty. In Srila Prabhupada’s book Krishna, this remarkable feature of Krishna’s personality is apparent in the following statement by a devotee, in which the beauty of the Lord’s flute-playing is feelingly described:

My dear friends, Krishna is so beautiful that the goddess of fortune always remains on His chest and He is always adorned with a golden necklace. Beautiful Krishna plays His flute in order to enliven the hearts of many devotees. He is the only friend of the suffering living entities. When He plays His flute, all the cows and other animals of Vrindavana, although engaged in eating, simply take a morsel of food in their mouths and stop chewing. Their ears raise up and they become stunned. They do not appear alive but like painted animals. Krishna’s flute-playing is so attractive that even the animals become enchanted, and what to speak of ourselves.

All of these features combine to make Krishna’s beauty fully satisfying. While material beauty offers momentary pleasure to the senses. Krishna’s spiritual beauty touches the very soul of the living being. thrilling him with a pleasure so wonderful that once having relished it he can never give it up. Srila Rupa Gosvami has therefore advised,

My dear friend, if you still have any desire to enjoy the company of your friends within this material world, then don’t look upon the form of Krishna, who is standing on the bank of Keshi-ghata. He is known as Govinda, and His eyes are very enchanting. He is playing upon His flute, and on His head there is a peacock feather. His whole body is illuminated by the moonlight in the sky.

The more a devotee appreciates Krishna’s beauty, the less he falls for the flickering attractions of this material world. Once, Haridasa Thakura, a great devotee of the Lord, was chanting Hare Krishna alone, absorbed in the beauty of the Lord’s holy name. An alluring young prostitute appeared and tried to divert him from his vow of chanting Krishna’s names 300,000 times daily. Haridasa’s attraction to Krishna’s beauty was so deep, however, that he remained unaffected by her advances. Instead, he converted the prostitute into a virtuous devotee greatly attached to the beauty of Krishna.

Although descriptions of Krishna’s beauty are fascinating, we may rightfully wonder how we can overcome our own attraction to the world’s enticements and achieve the coveted vision of Krishna’s spiritual beauty. We can begin by remembering that even the flickering beauty of this world has its origin in Krishna. The sunrise, the fragrant flower, the taste of water, or anything else of value can remind us of Krishna and thus act as an agent for our spiritual enlightenment.

Furthermore, by hearing and chanting about Krishna in the company of devotees and by worshiping His Deity form in the temple, we can accelerate our spiritual advancement. This combination of pleasurable devotional activities will very surely and effectively raise us to the platform of pure love for Krishna, enabling us to view Him face to face and enjoy the nectar of His moonlike beauty.

    Kahare Boliba Radhe
    Krsna Prem Koto
    Krsna Prem Paitai
    Radha Bodo Ato

O Radhe, to whom I can express transcendental love of Krsna and how sweet it is! Only to test this transcendental love Radha becomes so supreme!

    PURPORT:

Transcendental love of Krsna can not be tested by ordinary devotees who lives in material desire. Because in material sense there is always a connection between material body. But in Vrindavan, Radha wants to test the transcendental love of Krsna anyway. Then Krsna tells, O Radhe, in this material world living within material body it is not possible to enjoy all mellows of transcendental love. It is practically impossible to enjoy this transcendental bliss that is existing in the spiritual world of Goloka Vrindavan. Only you can enjoy this transcendental love through my expansion in this material world by devotional services. To enjoy complete transcendental love, you have to expand up to Golok Vrindavan. Listening that Radha told, O my Lord, I am in the mood of your transcendental love and wants to enjoy living in this material world anyhow. Please give me your mercy such that I can enjoy it in this material world and also can distribute that to everybody. Listening that Lord Krsna becomes so merciful and told, O Radhe, Only take my name in your heart and remaining chanting always. In that only you can enjoy my transcendental love always. There is no other way but only through my name one can enjoy all spiritual bliss that existing in Golok Vrindavan. Listening that Radha, becomes very pleased and started singing Lord's holy name always in her heart and remains in Vrindavan in this material world forever to distribute Lord's name and transcendental love by distributing Hari Nam. All glory to supreme Lord Hari. All glory Radharani of Golok Vrindavan. Hare Krsna! Haribol!

All universes and eternal threads of all universes are resting within my body. All eternal knowledge about these universes are eternal knowledge about me. The supreme of all knowledges of these universes also resting within me.

    PURPORT:

The entire universe and universes are created one within another. But everything coming from same source that is Krsna. Krsna is preserver of all eternal knowledge and ultimate source. These universes are all connected within threads that passing through the eternal body of Krsna. Since all those threads are resting within Krsna, Krsna is only supreme controller of these universes. How to control those universes by using which thread that is known to Krsna only. That's why in Bhagavat Gita, Lord Krsna said that, He is only supreme controller of all universes and other than Him, no body has knowledge of all universes. All manifestations these are visible today that is happening through Krsna's will by manifesting all eternal threads these are resting within Him. That's why Krsna's glories are incomparable and can not be sublimated anyway by anyone. Radharani who is eternal consort of Krsna is knower of that truth and that's why always remaining chanting of Krsna's name within her heart. In that mood Lord incarnated as Mohaprabhu and distributed Hari Nam to everyone. Only Krsna's mercy is supreme and one must try to achieve Lord's mercy by chanting Hari Nam always within one's heart. All glory to Mohaprabhu who is Krsna Himself. All glory to Pancha Tattva! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! All glory to Prabhupada! Hare Krsna! Haribol!

    Ananta Viswaya Hari
    Namo Namo Koro Re
    Brahmya Janna Brahmya Janna
    Bhakti Janna Koro Re

Hari is most wonderful among all wonderful incarnations of Vishnu through out universe. One must offer always obesences to Hari only. A wise Brahmin who has knowledge of Brahman must develop devotion to Hari who always protects His devotees.

    PURPORT:

Lord Hari who is Krsna, is most wonderful incarnation among all incarnations of Vishnu. When one hears about Hari, one must offer obesences to Hari without thinking that Hari is supreme among all incarnations of Vishnu. Thus one wise Brahmin, who achieves all wisdom of scriptures, finally tries to develop devotion within his heart to supreme Lord Hari. Without devotion to Hari, how come one claims that he is Brahmin? If one says one is Brahmin and achieved knowledge of Brahman, then one must have knowledge that Hari is supreme among all incarnations of Vishnu. Thus without worshipping Hari within heart one can not qualify to be Brahmin. That’s what is happening in this Kali Yuga, many Brahmin though they born in Brahmin family, they neither have any knowledge about Hari nor they worship Hari within their heart. Because of this, in Kali Yuga, Brahmin has lost their spiritual power and meat eaters where all powerful Kali is living becoming more powerful day after day. Because of this reason, everyday we are seeing much destruction through out this material world. This material world will become peaceful only if spiritual power of Brahmin is realized and Brahmin always chants Hari Nam within their heart. Only Hari Nam can save this material world from destruction of Kali by those who are meat eaters. Otherwise in this material world, we will see more and more destructions day after day. In Bhagavatam it is said, Moharaj Pariskhit allowed Kali to live within meat eaters, illicit sex, gambling, alcohol and finally gold in this Kali Yuga. Thus in Kali Yuga, destructive power of Kali will grow within meat eaters day after day. There is no doubt about this. Advaita Achyara was one perfect Brahman who had complete knowledge of scriptures. He cried for mercy of Hari to save suffering souls from the influence of Kali. Lord descended in name of Gourahari to save all suffering souls. Mohaprabhu distributed Hari Nam to everyone and asked everybody to chant always to be saved from Kali. By chanting Hari Nam only influence of Kali will be reduced otherwise not. Prabhupada also preached same things to be saved in Kali Yuga by following His instruction 1) No Meat eating 2) No Illicit Sex 3) No Gambling 4) No Alcohol. He also recommended chanting Hari Nam always. All glory to Advaita Achariya! All glory to Mohaprabhu! All glory to Pancha Tattva! All glory to Prabhupada! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! Hare Krsna! Haribol!

All spiritual power of Hari is power of Supreme person that is most dear to Hari. The knowledge of love and devotion along with knowledge of creation is most dear to Hari

    PURPORT:

Hari is supreme person and Hari is reservoirs of all spiritual potencies along with its spiritual power. Without mercy of Hari, one can not achieve any spiritual power because Hari is entire creation. When one is devoid of Hari, one becomes devoid of all spiritual potencies and its power. Such person though accumulates some name and fame, but it lasts for a moment. This is like one iron which is exposed to moisture and once it is rusted all its brightness is lost. Similarly, devoid of Hari’s mercy is only loosing of one’s brightness of spiritual potencies. That’s why, one wise person who once realized Hari will never devoid Him. That is the key to every realization of scriptures. Because of this reason, one realized soul always tries to develop devotional love that is Prema Bhakti towards supreme person Hari. Since Hari is ultimate origin of all creations, one becomes His associates and becomes all sources of creation through loving services towards Hari. That’s why in ancient time all Brahmins were always offered unconditional loving services to the supreme feet of Lord Hari and became brighten like one universe by becoming its creator known as Brahman. A Brahman is one who realized Hari and His spiritual power. Such Brahman always gets mercy from Hari and Hari becomes their spiritual strength when ever they face any challenges within their creation. That’s what Narada Muni had observed that Hari called all Brahmas from every universe and asked their well being. Hari offered them unconditional love and spiritual strength whenever they needed to save their creations. All glory to supreme person Hari! All glory to Pancha Tattva! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! All glory to Prabhupada and Mohaprabhu! All glory to associate vaisanavas! Hare Krsna! Haribol!

Among all Brahmin, that Brahmin is wise who teaches and chants name of Hari always in heart. One must offer devotional services to such Brahman thinking as one’s spiritual master who always devoted to Hari taking name of Lord always within heart

    PURPORT:

In this material world there are many Brahmins those who are born as Brahmin. But many of them suffer and engage in abominable activities that are practiced by non Brahmins and sudras through influence of Kali forgetting teaching of Moahaprabhu. But among all Brahmin, one who is wise always chants Hari Nam and engages to teach other to chant name of Hari. Such Brahmin always follows teaching of Vaisanava Gururs and their spiritual masters without expecting any material enjoyment. That Brahmin is not one ordinary Brahmin one who realized Hari as supreme person. A Brahmin who realized Hari as supreme must be called Brahman. Among all such Brahman, Mohaprabhu is supreme Brahman who is Lord Hari Himself. Thus every one must offer devotional services to supreme Brahman who is Mohaprabhu. Mohaprabhu chanted Hari Nam with every Brahman those who were His followers. Chanting of Hari Nam in ecstatic mood and enjoying spiritual bliss must be ultimate goal in life. Otherwise one will come into influence of Kali through material enjoyment and suffer in this material world life after life. To avoid suffering in this material world one must follow Prabhupada’s teachings 1) No Meat Eating 2) No Intoxication 3) No Illicit Sex 4) No Gambling 5) Chant Hari Nam always. Following these simple five steps one can test supreme spiritual bliss through mercy of Mohaprabhu. All glory to Prabhupada! All glory to Mohaprabhu! All glory to Pancha Tattva! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! Hare Krsna! Haribol!

River Satadru and Bhagirathi are always offering their obesences to the supreme feet of Lord Hari. Always chanting name of Hari who is embodiment of devotion and spiritual love for mercy

    PURPORT:

Hari is controller of devotional energy and its flow. Through out the universe Lord delivers His spiritual power through flows of streams of water. This water is very sacred and sages hold sacred water in their water pot. Even Lord Brahma also carries always water pot with water that comes from supreme feet of Lord Hari. Thus water is symbol of Lord’s devotional energy that is stored within heart of devotees. Sacred water flows in many rivers through out this universe and such river are Satadru and Bhagirathi. In Purana, it is mentioned that Bhagiratha meditated on Vishnu to bring Lord’s stream of love and Lord sent His consort Ganga to earth. Ganga flows through entire universe and fell on water pot of Lord Brahma and then on mighty Shiva’s head. Ganga is flowing in river Bhagirathi that is very sacred. Mohaprabhu incarnated on the bank of river Bhagirathi that symbolizes Lord’s supreme mercy and stream of love that always flows through heart of Ganga. Now through out this material world, water cycle who is Ganga has been disturbed and polluted. People are facing tremendous problem due to polluted water system that represents heart of Ganga. There can not be mercy of supreme Lord unless Lord’s divine consort Ganga becomes happy and blissful. In Puran, it is said that Ganga got curse from Saraswati and manifested in material world. Lord Hari promised that Goddess Ganga will be freed from her curse and will return to supreme abode of Lord through His mercy after 5000 years of Kali Yuga. Now that time arrived and we are seeing many problems arising from polluted water systems in this material world must be cleaned up. Now time has come to worship Ganga and get her mercy. The best way to worship Ganga is to reducing pollution in water system and especially in river Ganga and other main rivers in this material world for example Satadru etc. Ganga’s sacredness must be kept on this earth, otherwise in Kali Yuga, there will be tremendous suffering that will arise from polluted water system on this material world. All glory to Goddess Ganga who is consort of Hari. Worship Ganga always in heart and ask Her blessing. Chant Hari Nam always within heart along with Lord’s divine consort Ganga. Hare Krsna! Haribol!

    Nitya Prem Haridwar
    Nitya Vrindavan
    Nitya Prem Koro Radha
    Prem Sarvakhan

O, Radhe, my spiritual and devotional energy is flowing in material and spiritual world in the form of Ganga through Haridwar. My devotional and transcendental love is enriched in Vrindavan where my devotees are engaged with me in Prema Bhakti. Thus O, Radhe, my transcendental love existing always within those eternal abodes of mine and one can test it through supreme devotion to me.

    PURPORT:

Hari is supreme person and supreme embodiment of transcendental love. Hari said, O Radhe, my transcendental love and devotional energy is flowing through stream of water of Ganga in Haridwar where my foot mark is placed. I am eternally engaged with love of Ganga who is my consort in my eternal abode of Haridwar. That love is completely transcendental and can be tested only by my superior devotees. One devotee who can test this transcendental love is extremely fortunate and know that devotee is supreme among everyone through out this universe. Transcendental love of Ganga and Her blessing is not ordinary for any devotee in entire universe either in material or in spiritual world. Similarly, my transcendental love that is exhibited in Vrindavan is completely spiritual and its spiritual bliss can be enjoyed by engaging in Prema Bhakti towards me. I only touch to my superior devotees those who are completely engrossed transcendentally in love of me. Other than this, I never exhibit my transcendental form to any ordinary devotee. Thus one, who has tested the nectar of spiritual bliss through my transcendental form, know that devotee is extremely fortunate and I remain in search of such devotees always. It is extremely difficult to find such devotees who are superior in devotional platform than me to whom I can be attracted to show my transcendental form. Unless one devotee can enter into my heart freely because of devotional power through my mercy, one can not test my transcendental form and transcendental beauties. Sages had performed sacrifices thousands of years to test such transcendental bliss and transcendental beauties but few of them could become successful. So what to talk about one ordinary devotee? Thus Lord Hari explained how difficult to enter within His transcendental abode through His heart for one ordinary devotee and to see His transcendental beauties of His eternal abode, for which sages performed thousands of years of sacrifices. All glory to Lord Hari! All glory to Radharani! All glory to Ganga who is divine consort of Hari eternally existing in Haridwar. Hare Krsna! Haribol!

Once one devotees offers unconditional love to Krsna, one comes to a state of devotional services to Hari. Thus one chants name of Hari always and resides in supreme abode of Navadwip

    PURPORT:

Devotional services to Krsna and offering unconditional love to Krsna, is first step to coming into Krsna Consciousness. Once a devotee becomes Krsna conscious by offering unconditional devotional services to Krsna, one receives mercy of supreme Lord Hari. In that state of mind one always chants name of Hari by following foot steps of Mohaprabhu. Because of the merits of devotional services to Mohaprabhu by chanting Hari Nam and giving Hari Nam to other, one gets mercy of Mohaprabhu and comes to supreme abode of Lord in Navadwip. Thus Navadwip is very easy to attend by ordinary devotees where Mohaprabhu residing eternally and one can enjoy all transcendental bliss in age of Kali similar to other elevated Vaisanavas and superior devotees of Lord in Golok Vrindavan. One also gets mercy of Lord's divine consort Ganga who eternally existing in Navadwip. Thus devotional services to Mohaprabhu is primary criteria to achieve mercy of supreme Lord Hari and residing in spiritual capital of Navadwip where Hari eternally presents in Mohaprabhu. All glory to Mohaprabhu! All glory to Nittananda Prabhu! All glory to Prabhupada! All glory to Pancha Tattva! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! All glory to Madan Mohan! Hare Krsna! Haribol!

I become all purifying force and purifies all demigods about their ability to realize Hari. Only by becoming devotee of supreme Lord Hari, one can realize all spiritual potencies and spiritual power of Hari

    PURPORT:

In time to time, in this material world there arises all misconceptions about supreme Lord Hari. Because of the influence of illusionary potencies of Lord on the demigods, many person develop misconceptions about spiritual strength of Lord Hari. One can understand Lord up to one's ability that is through one's perceptions and realizations. But one's realization can not be proved always ultimate truth unless that comes from supreme person Hari. That's why all explanations about Lord's spiritual potencies and spiritual strength is sublime with the illusionary potencies of demigods. But when truth is explained by Lord Himself then that becomes absolute truth. Such truth is advent of Mohaprabhu in this material world. Lord appeared not only by self but along with all His close associates and devotees to deliver suffering souls in this material world. That is ultimate truth because Mohaprabhu was supreme among all demigods those who accompanied Him. So advent of Lord to the material world always not happen, it only can happen through the will of God Himself and all His close associates. But it is also truth that Lord sends many of His associates and devotees time to time and ask them to become correcting force by delivering proper messages, such that best order of religions and devotional services are performed by His devotees in this material world. In this context, Lord can advent Himself through His supreme devotee, if such need arises. Thus advent of Hari is only possible, when their is a need to take all reins on His own hand because of tremendous sufferings of souls in this material world. Other than this, Lord always delivers messages through His close associates and devotees. All glory to Mohaprabhu! All glory to Pancha Tattva! All glory to Narahari Narashima Dev! All glory to Jaganntha! All glory to Prabhupada! All glory to Lord Ramakrishna Dev! All glory to my Gurudev Sathya Sai Baba! Hare Krsna! Haribol!

O, Demigods, only to achieve supreme goal in life, I become all pleasurable sources to you. Only to establish highest order of religions, in every era I only appear

    PURPORT:

To achieve supreme goal of life including demigods, Lord Hari becomes pleasurable sources to everyone. Lord Himself who is reservoir of all pleasure potencies, becomes all sources of pleasure to every one specially for demigods. That's why Lord Hari is having highest pleasure potencies and that is available to demigods because of their sacrifices to the supreme Lord Hari. Thus attaining Lord Hari must be highest goal of every soul either in this material world or in heaven. Again Lord Hari is protector of religions in highest order. Unless religions and sacrifices are protected to the highest order, all merits of demigods become void and irreligious prevails every where. But becoming maintainer of the whole universe, Lord Hari always becomes available to protect highest order of religions through out this universe. That's why Lord said. O, demigods, I always appear to establish highest order of religion through out universe because I preserve this whole universe. That's why everybody must follow their own religions to the highest order to achieve supreme goal of life where Lord Himself becomes all sources of pleasure to His devotees. All glory to Lord Hari! Hare Krsna! Haribol!
