Sadhusanga.com has received several requests to record more of Srila Prabhupada’s writings and to include his Purports. Thus, we’re beginning a series of 10 different Chapters from the Srimad Bhagavatam with full Sanskrit verses, translations, and purports by His Divine Grace.
The first of this series is the First Canto, Chapter Two - Divinity & Divine Service, spoken by Suta Gosvami to the gathering of sadhus at Naimisaranya Forest.
As most devotees know, Srila Prabhupada wrote this chapter while living at his Radha Damodara rooms in Vrndavana before leaving for the USA, so it’s pregnant with philosophy and his sense of anticipation to spread Krsna consciousness around the world.
From Srila Prabhupada’s purport in this chapter SB 1.2.12: "A sincere devotee must, therefore, be prepared to hear the Vedic literature like the Upanisads, Vedanta, and other literatures left by the previous authorities or Gosvamis for the benefit of his progress. Without hearing such literatures one cannot make actual progress. And without hearing and following the instructions, the show of devotional service becomes worthless and therefore a sort of disturbance in the path of devotional service."
From 1.2.32 purport: "The Lord can be realized through the aural reception of the transcendental message, and that is the only way to experience the transcendental subject."
