How Did the Funeral Go?

Upon seeing the chanting and dancing of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, Lord Nityananda predicted that later there would be dancing and chanting in every village. This prediction of Sri Nityananda Prabhu is applicable not only in India but also all over the world. That is now happening by His grace. The members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness are now traveling from one village to another in the Western countries and are even carrying the Deity with them. These devotees distribute various literatures all over the world. We hope that these devotees who are preaching the message of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu will very seriously follow strictly in His footsteps. If they follow the rules and regulations and chant sixteen rounds daily, their endeavor to preach the cult of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu will certainly be successful. Cc. Madhya 7.82

Over the last couple of weeks as I have been travelling, I have been meeting several people who seem to be very eager and open for Krishna Consciousness. I asked Billie my usual cabdriver, how many books does she need to distribute. She gave me a figure for around 20 books. I asked what did she do with all the books that she took from me. She has taken almost 15 small books and 1 Bhagvad Gita from me. She told me that she has read all of them and distributed all of them to her friends. She is currently reading chapter 3 of Bhagvad Gita. Everytime i meet her, she asks me a specific question from Bhagvad Gita. It is always an interesting conversation at 4:30 AM. Recently, she gave one ‘Perfection of Yoga’ to her eldest daughter. She is married to a wealthy industrialist in Houston. They became so fascinated by the small book ‘Perfection of Yoga’ that they want to meet me and take some practical tips on Mantra meditation. I asked them to come to my house for a breakfast where I can explain them the techniques of meditation as mentioned in our books. As HH Radhanath Maharaja tells us to make friends with the new people. My main focus is always to make friends first before handing them the book. Every time that I distribute books I am amazed at the power and reach of these books.

We began distributing books at the Walmart store in Houston last week. I met this well educated man Joey and started talking to him about the benefit of Vegetarianism. He told me that he wants to be a vegetarian. I gave him our book ‘The Higher Taste’. I told him that it answers all the questions about being a vegetarian. He bought some cookies from our Bake sale at our Sankirtana spot. Later on I saw him talking to some devotees at our Prasadam booth. He bought that book and paid $5 for the book.

Recently my colleague, Rose Allen’s brother-in-law left his body. She came to tell me about his sudden demise. I had heard from HG Gauranga Prabhu about the Smasana Vairagya. I always carry one Bhagvad Gita in my bag which I can either read or distribute. I opened that book and read to her some key verses from the second chapter. She had never heard that ever before. I told her that we usually read it at our homes regularly. I asked her,”Why don’t you read this aloud at his funeral and let everyone hear”. Later I told her about the Process of Transmigration. I told her the story of Ajamila. She was so grateful. Before leaving for the day, she thanked me over and over again for the book. Later the following week, I asked her,”How did the funeral go?”. She told me that everyone loved the contents of that book. Her sister has taken that book to read personally. They live in Orange County. I am planning to introduce them to some local devotee over there.

The world is in so much need of Srila Prabhupada’s books. We should always carry some books with us. We may even tip the Taxi drivers with a copy of ‘Perfection of yoga’ or any of Srila Prabhupada’s small books. We never know when will Krishna use us as the instruments of His compassion. HG Vaisesika Prabhu is definitely showing us the way to tap this unlimited potential. My faith in Srila Prabhupada’s books has increased tremendously and I try to read them more sincerely than ever before.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada’s transcendental books.

With gratitude, Your servant,

Adiguru dasa

You never know what will happen to a divine book once it gets into the circulation. Srila Prabhupad's books are wonderful to distribute, and even more wonderful to study. He once remarked to me that he wanted the book distributors to study his books carefully. Vaisesika Prabhu is a very nice example of this.
